Central YMCA is proud to announce the appointment of our first Youth Impact Ambassador (YIA) for the Y’s Girls Programme. The Youth Impact Ambassador plays a vital role in leading or co-leading activities for the Y’s Girls Programme – which is a new project in Central London, in partnership with YMCA England & Wales. The Y’s Girls programme supports girls aged 9–14 by pairing them with trained mentors. This programme builds confidence, encourages exploration of new interests, and provides a safe space for open conversations. Through the role, the YIA will attend feedback sessions to enhance the inclusivity and accessibility of the programme, ensuring it meets the needs of all participants.

At just 11 years old, Kayla - our newly appointed YIA has already begun her inspiring journey of leadership and community impact. On Monday, 18 November, she embraced her new role by attending a key meeting in Lewisham alongside her mentor—Allison Bishop, the Project Coordinator from Central YMCA. The meeting brought together approximately 20 young people, including the Deputy Young Mayor of Lewisham and Youth Advisors, to discuss the changes they’d like to see in their community.

When asked about her new role, Kayla expressed her enthusiasm, saying:
"I’m very happy to be a YIA. It is a new role and it is a lot of fun, hard work, and meaningful. I’m so lucky to have this opportunity."

Reflecting on what the role means to her, she added:
"It means I can help people, and when we come together, I can make my peers feel comfortable as everyone in the group is very nice. Nobody is horrible."

Kayla previously led fellow mentees in a group setting, and also worked as a Community Champion at Morrisons in Peckham on 1 November - where she gained hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of the store. Looking ahead, she will participate in exciting engagements, including presenting at her school, attending an end-of-year party, and even meeting the cast of Sleeping Beauty during an upcoming theatre visit.

This new role offers a unique opportunity for Kayla to develop leadership skills, gain valuable experience, and make a lasting impact on her peers and community. Her enthusiasm and dedication reflect the very essence of the Y’s Girls Programme, which seeks to empower young girls with opportunities they may not have otherwise encountered.

At Central YMCA, we are excited to see the influence our first Youth Impact Ambassador will have in the months ahead. With her passion and determination, she is already paving the way for meaningful change and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
