At our free events, you'll have the opportunity to:

The roadshow events are taking place throughout March and April, giving you the opportunity to explore the new world of apprenticeships, including its opportunities and challenges.

We’re keen to share how providing apprenticeship opportunities is a key part of any strategy in enabling businesses to grow and prosper.  

Who should attend?

We hope these events will have something for everyone. They will be of particular interest for employers who are either seeking expert advice to maximise their levy investment, or non levy payers who are keen to learn about the range of funding, support and incentives available for employers through the apprenticeship reforms.

They will also be of note for those who may be considering working in partnership with Central YMCA, promoting opportunities for education and wellbeing for the community at large.

Tara Dillon - London speaker

As CEO of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, Tara Dillon leads the institute's headline work in professionalising UK sport and leisure and transforming the workforce development opportunities of those who work in the sector.

Tara was appointed as CEO in January 2015, before which she was interim chief operating officer whilst on secondment from IQL UK. Previously, Tara has held a variety of senior management roles within the leisure sector, combining 12 years working in local authorities and 9 years in the private sector, culminating in a customer-focused commercial role as executive director of IQL UK.

 

Lady Andrée Deane Barron, MD

Managing Director of YMCA Training

Lady Andrée Deane Barron is a sector expert with three published books and an extensive career history in Education, starting her career as a secondary school teacher. Andrée is the author of the first Apprenticeships in Fitness and Leisure.

Andrée has since managed a number of public affairs accounts as a consultant and was Chief Executive of the Fitness Industry Association for ten years between 1999 and 2009.

Andrée is now Managing Director of YMCA Training, one of the largest voluntary sector training providers in the country.

YMCA Training has 11 centres which provide courses including vocational training programmes, traineeships, apprenticeships and courses for employers.

Andrée is married to Rother Valley MP Sir Kevin Barron

 

James Cartlidge - Ipswich speaker

James Cartlidge lives in Assington, near Sudbury, with his wife Emily and four children. James was a Babergh district councillor until May 2015, representing the parishes of Bures St Mary, Little Cornard and Newton Green. His professional background is as an entrepreneur, having founded Share to Buy ltd, a shared ownership property portal, mortgage broker and host of the ‘London Home Show’, the capital’s biggest event for first time buyers. Share to Buy’s portal officially hosts all the properties available from the Mayor of London’s ‘FIRST STEPS’ scheme, providing the platform at no cost to the taxpayer (having previously been subsidised at a cost of £2m per year). Housing is certainly one of James’s biggest passions and he uses his experience and background in the industry to push for solutions to the housing crisis. Most notably, James is Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Planning. He is also a member of the Public Accounts Commission.
