Central YMCA hosted an end-of-summer event in August as part of the Youth Impact Ambassador (YIA) Project.

Project Coordinator Allison Bishop led the event to engage Y's Girls mentees and mentors through an afternoon of fun and interactive activities.

The YIA Project is a research initiative within the Y's Girls Programme, designed to make the programme more accessible and inclusive by incorporating feedback from young participants. At least 12 young people will become Youth Impact Ambassadors (YIAs) with support from their Project Coordinators.

During the event, mentees and mentors spent the day getting to know each other, exploring the garden, and participating in workshops at Bold Tendencies in Peckham, London. Activities included drawing, sculpture-making, and playground-style games. The event was a step towards understanding young people's perspectives on the recently launched Y's Girls Programme, which was initiated at Central YMCA earlier this year.

Y's Girls is a mentoring programme for girls aged 9 to 14. It pairs them with trained mentors to help them build confidence, explore interests, and learn new skills in a supportive and fun environment. The programme also provides a safe space for girls to discuss personal concerns and seek advice on topics they might not feel comfortable sharing with others.

Rose Morgan, the Community Champion for Morrisons Peckham, joined the initiative and generously provided food and goody bags for all attendees. The event marks the start of efforts to gather valuable feedback for the YIA Project.

Following the success of this event, plans are already in place for the next gathering, which will be held at Central YMCA in October.
